Clarence Murphy also affectionately known as "Murph" was named the 2016-2017 Rotarian of the Year.  Born in Manchester New Hampshire, Murph received is BS and MS at the University of New Hampshire in Chemistry and his PhD at SUNY Buffalo.  He began working at East Stroudsburg University in 1969 and became the Chair of the Chemistry Department.  He later joined the Rotary Club of the Stroudsburgs in 1972, which happens to be before women were allowed to join.

Murph was elected Club President in 2002-2003.  During his 45 year membership he was inducted into the Paul Harris Society Level 2, served on the Ambassadorial Scholarship committee for District 7410 for 10 years and was the chair of the committee for 5 years.  As a result, he was able to help the district sponsor several students from ESU become Ambassadorial Scholars.

Murph also worked to send the only Peace Scholar through our district that came from India and traveled to Australia.  This work changed many lives.    He has been the Stroudsburgs Rotary Club main contact with the Boy Scouts and attends many Eagle Scout court of honors...far too many to count.

He has authored and co authored over 100 research papers on chemistry and is a co-inventor on 5 US patents.  Murph currently served on the board of the Monroe County Historical Association and served as President from 1994 to 1997 as well as other local boards and is Monroe County's oldest living Eagle Scout.

Congratulations Murph and thank you for your service!
