What happened last week?
50/50 - Chuck Niclaus's turquois sneakers did not help him find the Queen. $70 rolls over!
Steve Cunnignham, Chief Development Officer at Pocono Medical Center, talked to the club about Emergency Medicine and PMC's new Emergency Center. In 2011, 90,000 patients were seen in PNMC's ER, a 70% increase in 10 years. 70% were not true emergencies leading to the opening of Urgent Care Centers. PMC opened two in 2011, one in 2012 and one is scheduled to open in 2015.
PMC became a Level 3 Trauma Center in 2008. With the addition of a Neurosurgeon on 24 hour call, PMC hopes to move to a Level 2 Trauma Center by 2017. This will enable them to keep the majority of patients that currently have to be sent to other hospitals.
In 2014, PMC began to expand the Mattioli Emergency Center at the hospital. Team Health took over management of the ER in 2015. Part of their service is to provide Hospitalists that help create better communication between doctors, patients and their families. The ER now has Board Certified Pediatricians available 24 hours, as well as being a Heart and Stroke Center. PMC was currently listed in an independent stude in the top 10% for hospital safety.
The grand reopening of the Mattioli Emergence Center will take place on September 29, at 11AM.
