What happened last week?

50/50 - Jen Keat was called to find the Queen.  The Queen is still hiding!  $125 rolls over!

Gabrielle Ferrara says the Marhsalls Creek Mastodon is an extinct mammal.  This happened 4,000 years ago.  The mastodon can get up to 8 tons and they are not a mammoth, elephant or dinosaur.  The initial discovery was in July 1968 and excavation lasted 2 weeks.  The first exhibition was in the early 1970's and only the left side was on display.  In 2008 the entire skelton was reunited. It was a male aged 25-30 years old when he died from a degenerative bone disease.  It's tusks were missing.

Membership Flexibility

It’s an exciting time for Rotary membership. Because of important changes enacted at the 2016 Council on Legislation, clubs have greater flexibility to decide when, where, and how they meet, as well as the types of membership they offer. Read more in General Secretary John Hewko’s blog post.

Our research suggests that clubs grow when they have more freedom to decide how they hold meetings, whom they recruit as members, and how they define engagement.

For instance, the Rotary Club of Harrogate Brigantes, in North Yorkshire, England, used a flexible approach to reverse its declining membership, evolving into a multi-dimensional Rotary club. The club now has sub-groups for different interests and membership is thriving as a result.

The club also is considering a “sun and planets” system in which each group runs itself, while reporting to a club board consisting of the club president, president-elect, secretary, treasurer, and a representative from each group.

If you have an idea for membership flexibility, join the conversation in our Membership Best Practices Discussion Group.
