PPDG Carl Hassett Pandemic Past District Governor DG 2020-2021 Member of the Rotary club of Mid-Bergen County, New Jersey and Director of Disaster Aid USA for Rotary Zone 32. Carl Hassett, a Bronx boy, is very proud of his 20 year career with the New York City Fire Department (FDNY) and was stationed in the South Bronx, Ladder Co. #42; one of the busiest ladder companies in New York City. His Fire Co responded to an average of 6,000 runs per year! He learned very fast how to put out fires along with many commendations for saving many lives and property. Upon retiring from (FDNY), he joined the Rutherford New Jersey Volunteer Fire Dept and now has over 42 years of fire experience. Carl also owns an Upholstery and Window Treatment business called E&S Upholstery LLC and has been an Upholsterer, fabricates Drapery and Window Treatments for over 45 years. He also works with his wife’s company, Meadowlands Decorating Center LLC in East Rutherford, New Jersey. Carl recently celebrated his 26th wedding anniversary with his wife and Rotarian, Yvonne, nickname, Y-Von, who just became the first woman president of her Rotary club of The Meadowlands in East Rutherford New Jersey. Y-Von is also a professional singer and song writer who works with bands in around New Jersey and New York. Yvonne is also involved in Disaster Aid USA and received training along with being Chain Saw Certified. Carl and Yvonne are also parents to 1 wonderful rescued black lab named April and 1 Calico rescued cat called Venus de Milo. Carl joined Rotary in 2007. Carl became President of the Mid-Bergen Rotary club in 2011-2012 and again in 2012-2013. He also served in all the offices for his club. Previous to Carl learning about Rotary Disaster Aid USA, Super Storm Sandy hit in Oct 2012 and Carl offered his time to assist in donating and transporting food/goods that were coming in from all over the country to our District 7490 Bergen County Sandy distribution center in Paramus NJ. He drove his large van back and forth delivering donations to flooded areas such as Moonachie, Teterboro and the Rockaways in New York. Carl served as District Secretary 2013-2014 for DG Lenny Agrusti. Carl and Lenny, both First Responders, developed a “CPR Anytime” presentation which they taught to District clubs, community organizations and schools which lead to getting attention by New Jersey State Educators to mandate High School Seniors take “CPR Anytime” in order to graduate.
