Prevention:  The Key To Wellness
It is important to note that 1 in 6 people worldwide cannot pay for healthcare, while 100 million people are pushed into poverty due to the cost of medical attention. That is why Disease Prevention and Treatment is one of Rotary's Six Areas of Focus. Fulfillment of the goal to treat and prevent diseases is Rotary's global effort to set up temporary clinics, blood donation centers, and training facilities in underserved communities struggling with outbreaks and health care access.
Enhancing the health infrastructure of local communities reduces the causes and effects of disease. Therefore, Rotary designs and builds infrastructure that allows doctors, patients, and governments to work together, thereby improving the capacity of local health care professionals, as well as related community service organizations, to combat diseases like malaria, HIV/AIDS, Alzheimer’s, multiple sclerosis, diabetes, polio and other major diseases.
Rotary is also involved in the support of studies related to Disease Prevention and Treatment, coupled with educating and mobilizing communities to help prevent the spread of major diseases.
Stroudsburgs Rotary is proud to be among those organizations supporting Disease Prevention and Treatment in communities both locally and around the world.
December is Rotary’s Disease Prevention and Treatment Month
DG Joe Loughman Visit
On November 19, District Governor Joe Loughman shared valuable information to the Evening Club. He provided important insights to happenings in District 7410. He is definitely passionate about Rotary and his enthusiasm is contagious!

Vocational Talks
Two of our members shared their passions with us. Holly Corcoran, CPA and co-owner of Corcoran Hagerty & Associates LLC shared her thoughts on how important it is to give back to your community. Serving and giving back are important commitments we have to make to thrive and help our communities flourish. Holly also shared her experience with equine endurance racing - a competitive and fulfilling activity for her. Ed Schaefer shared his story about his journey with Boy Scouts of America. His passion led to full time occupation and now is the Anthracite District Executive at Minsi Trails Council.
Salvation Army Bell Ringing
Once again, Stroudsburgs Rotarians stepped up to Salvation Army's Bell Ringing challenge. From 12-5 Dec 12, Rotarians took turn ringing the bells and wishing people a Merry Christmas and Happy Holidays. Despite the bitter cold weather, people were very generous and in the holiday spirit. Jason Lesh, Events and Development Coordinator for Salvation Army, reported that our efforts raised $503.17! He thanked us and said "You really helped to Rescue Christmas this year!" Special thanks to Rotarian Dave Yarosh for spearheading this initiative.
