John Hannes
John Hannes, Senior Officer of Rotary Club and District Support (CDS) on Rotary International Staff presented a discussion on policies, constitution and bylaws. New policy is geared toward Rotary's  diversity statement to cultivate a diverse, equitable and inclusive culture. CDS monitors clubs to ensure everyone is employing the same brand to keep Rotary's identity. There are online tools available for clubs to use to track progress on goals towards Rotary citation. A learning center is also available. And he introduced us to Rotary podcast - an interesting way to stay abreast of all things Rotary on rotaryclubradio.com. Any questions contact him at john.hannes@rotary.org.

President's Corner
Happy Birthday Rotary: 116 Years Strong
February 23rd is Rotary International’s Birthday. Rotary has lasted 116 years because of strong ethics, passionate Service Above Self, and a unique approach to problem-solving.

Rotary enables people of diverse backgrounds to gather in order to exchange ideas and form meaningful, lifelong friendships. Over time, Rotary’s reach and vision gradually extended to humanitarian service.

One of Rotary’s greatest strengths is the ability to reach across communities, as well as across national, ethnic, religious, and political divisions, uniting people of all backgrounds to help others

February is also the month when Rotary focuses on promoting peace. Rotarians are bolstered with an awareness that contributing to peace and international understanding, supports the well-being of the world. This has been a high priority for Rotary since the very beginning.

Going forward, let us celebrate Rotary’s history and the many ways that Rotary Opens Opportunities to advance world understanding, goodwill, and peace.
Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion (DEI)
In 2019, Rotary International’s Board of Directors articulated a vision and commitment to advancing diversity and inclusion throughout Rotary by adopting our first-ever Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion (DEI) Statement.
This Statement is the foundation for creating an organizational culture that reflects today’s world. It enables us to fully deliver on the central tenets of our work: promoting respect, demanding ethical leadership, and creating more just, open, and welcoming communities for all people.
Earlier this month, the Board engaged the DEI experts at PwC, a multinational business consulting group. They will help us develop perspectives and practices for making DEI part of our shared experiences as Rotary members. The goal is to support all members and participants – particularly those from communities traditionally underrepresented in the organization – so that they see our clubs, programs and our leadership ranks as places where they are welcomed and encouraged to celebrate all aspects of their lived experiences.
As we begin this work, Rotary’s leadership is united in stating that Rotary does not tolerate speech or behavior that promotes bias, discrimination, prejudice, or hatred because of age, ethnicity, race, color, abilities, religion, socioeconomic status, culture, sex, sexual orientation, or gender identity. There is no place within Rotary for racism, homophobia, transphobia, sexism, classism, or ageism. We do not believe that this is a political stance and we do believe that we should openly discuss these issues within our organization.
Rotary’s diversity strengthens us. Diversity is one of our core values, and the tremendous breadth and variety of experiences, cultures, and perspectives that are represented in our organization are what make us unique.
Rotary is learning. We know that this journey will take time and lead to challenging conversations, deep self-reflection, and new opportunities for discovery and growth. We must all feel empowered to speak out respectfully and hold ourselves and each other accountable when our actions do not reflect Rotary’s ideals. Look for more opportunities to be a part of this shared journey. We want participation, input, and ideas from our members all over the globe as we strive to show what’s possible when we uphold our commitment to diversity and respect for all.

Lovin' Lunch
As we are already into our 3rd month of meeting virtually and NOT spending our $15 weekly for lunch, how about donating some of that lunch money to share some “Lovin’ Lunch” with others?

An ad hoc committee developed a list of community organizations whose sole purpose is to help others. We want to treat them to lunch to say “Thank you for all you do”. Organizations such as Meals on Wheels, Family Promise and Angels Closet, just to name a few. We need your help to purchase lunch. We also hope to add the PATH guests to our mission and possible those staying at Paul’s House.

How do we accomplish this? Currently the board has decided that we won’t be back to meeting for lunch until April. That’s 6 weeks from now. If every member donated just $15, we would have over $1800. That would provide one lunch for everyone on our list, not to mention we will purchase the food from our local restaurants that support us like Sycamore Grill, The Willow Tree, and others.

Could we take this one step further? We have a speaker coming up on February 25th, Rotarian Owen Standley, who will be walking the entire Appalachian Trail to raise $100,000 for Polio. When Owen comes into our area in May, we plan to “host” him and do all that we can to make him comfortable on his stopover. How awesome would it be to also have a donation for Polio to present to him at that time! If you have NOT made a donation to the End Polio Campaign in this Rotary year, please consider a $15 or $30 donation at this time.

You can mail a check to “Stroudsburgs Rotary” @ P.O. Box 365 Stroudsburg PA 18360. Please note “Lovin’ Lunch” and/or “Polio” on the check with amount for each.

If you wish to use a credit card to make your contribution, let us know how much and our treasurer will send you an invoice through Clubrunner that will allow you to use a card.
Keep in mind however that we will pay some small fees.

We already have enough for our first “Lovin’ Lunch” which we presented to Meals on Wheels this week. It would be so great to say “Thank You” to all of these worthy organizations, so STEP UP ROTARIANS and let’s show some love as we Open Opportunities!
Rotary Leadership Institute (RLI)
Rotary Leadership Institute (RLI) is a way for Rotarians to come
together and learn more about Rotary and leadership that will
benefit not only as they navigate Rotary, but also in their everyday lives.

The sessions are broken into I, II, III and Graduate courses that can
be taken over the course of one or several years. With our current
situation, sessions are now being held virtually rather than in person.

There are 3 upcoming RLIs that you can attend as a first timer with
session I, or to continue from a session you might have taken in the
past. The next are Saturday February 27th, March 6 and March 13
and from 9am to 2pm right in your own home. The cost is $25 which
we ask that you pay upfront when you register. Then after you attend the session,
submit your receipt to our treasurer or myself and we will reimburse you for the
fee. Please visit rlinea.org to register and find out more.
District 7410 Stay at Home Auction
The District 7410 Virtual Fundraiser is a stay at home auction. The district is requesting donations of goods and services to be put up for auction and sponsorships. Across the district the usual localized Club fundraisers that people attend in large groups have been severely reduced and so we are working together to fundraise with a Silent auction between February 1, 2021 and March 14, 2021. The auction hopes to raise $110,000 for The Rotary foundation Annual Fund and $30,000 for the Polio Eradication Fund of Rotary International. Any success over and above our goals will be used in our local clubs to match funds for local projects in our communities. The auction is live now so visit  trellis.org/rotaryauction to place your bid on some exciting items - something for everyone! Our Stroudsburgs reps for this event are President Cleo Jarvis and Rotarians Stacy Rodriguez and Ann Super. Be sure to visit often because new items will be added until right before the auction closes. Many exciting opportunities!
