PASS THE HAT  donations raised $437 from lunch members, and then add on an almost 100% match by Rotarian Leslie. At the evening meeting we had more donations and a very generous donation of $1000 from our Satellite member Carmine Corridore; the Smithfields Rotary Club also donated $500, which brought the total to $2245.  These funds will help in the joint venture with Rotary, the Peace Corp and Dickerson Literacy Program, to start a literacy program in Belize. Thank you to all that donated, every donation makes a differencePeace Corps volunteer, Jessica Hillegas, a native of East Stroudsburg/ ESU graduate will be so happy to hear the great news.  Jessica will be spearheading this program in Belize.

Recap June 12, 2025
Recap
Thank you to last weeks speaker, Cindy Spinner, recruiter for the Milton Hershey School.  Cindy spoke at both meetings and she came bearing gifts of chocolate, which was so sweet of her. (badaboom, ok no more jokes for me)

Sharing His Success: "Milton Hershey believed that every person is “morally obligated to share the fruits of success with others.” This belief resulted in great contributions to his community and the world. He and his wife, Catherine, wanted to put their growing fortune to good use. Because they loved children and were unable to have their own, they decided to start a school in 1909: The Hershey Industrial School. Their goal was to create a school for low-income, orphaned boys to help them lead successful and happy lives. The school was the primary recipient of Mr. Hershey’s fortune when he died in 1945 at age 88." Excerpt from the website

Stroudsburgs Rotary Board Nominations-
We took a vote last week on the Proposed Board Members. Don Hannig made a motion to close nominations, however Ginny Kirwood made a motion for Tricia Wingerter as V.P. She accepted the nomination, and the members voted unanimously on accepting the proposed Board Members.  With that being said, Tricia is taking time to take this all in and we are giving her time to think about the required commitment.  She will confirm or deny her acceptance when she has made her decision.

Proposed Board Members accepted by the members:
President - Ed Schaefer
Pres Elect - Mike Raub
V.P. - Tricia Wingerter - to re-confirm at a later date
Secretary - Amy Leiser
Treasurer - Marlo Merhige
Asst Treasurer - Ted Butz
Director At Large - Dave Yarosh - not moving up in line for the Presidency
Director At Large - Gene Prospero - not moving up in line for the Presidency
Past President - Stacy Rodriguez

Dave Fox expressed a concern regarding the slate of officers. We are in need of Board Members that are willing to make the commitment to Rotary and move into the line of Presidency. There is a learning curve and we give you a few years to learn the different areas of concern. Please consider taking on a leadership role.  If I can do it so can you. Be the inspiration you want to see.

Golf Tournament Results -
Chair Don Hannig stated we raised about $11,777. (Exact amount is not in front of me)  Great job to everyone who participated.  A final breakdown will be given after Don has his final meeting with the Foundation Treasurer Karen Bastidas.

Generosity Thank You's
Danica Hartenfels has been deeply touched by the friendship and commitment of fellow Rotarian TJ Price that Danica has made 9 candles, named Generosity Swells My Heart, and raffled them off at our lunch meeting for $20/ each and donated all the proceeds to our club raising $180.  We appreciate both of you for all you do!

New Proposed Membership-
Proposed new memberships have been emailed twice for Russell Little and Tiffany Lyons, and once for  Devin Garlick. We look forward to their addition to the Rotary family.

Thank you to the Stroudsburgs Rotary Club & Smithfields Rotary Club in partnering with the Pensacola North Rotary Club, the Dangriga Belize Rotary Club and Dickerson Literacy Initiatives to sponsor a literacy project for the school where Jessica is assigned. The project will include donating new books to the school which Leon will personally deliver to the Club on June 29. Jessica will use the books in her service in the school.

The Board conducted a special session following the unexpected resignation of RI President-elect Mário César Martins de Camargo on 8 June. Based on RI code and policies, the Board selected the new president-elect from a pool of candidates who were considered by the Nominating Committee for President of Rotary International in August 2023.
