President's Corner
Greetings Rotarians!  We announced at our meetings over the past several weeks that we would be having an open discussion at this week's luncheon meeting about our Club's annual Spaghetti Dinner event.  The Club's Board of Directors at its monthly meeting on 1/7/2020 thought that it would be appropriate to have an open discussion on this matter.  In order to facilitate discussion; Stacy Rodriguez, Dave Super, Dave Yarosh, Don Hannig, Cleo Jarvis and myself met this past Monday to discuss this topic.  Based on that discussion the following was recommended to be presented to the Club Members:
  • Hold the event at Stroudsburg High School on Saturday May 16th between 4pm and 7pm (meatballs would be made the night before - Friday).
    •  we looked at possibly holding the event at East Stroudsburg High School; however, they could not accommodate us for the weekend of the 16th.  The following weekend is Memorial Day and we did not want to have the event going into June.
    • we reviewed the cost to hold the event at Stroudsburg or East Stroudsburg and determined that the costs charged by each school was similar (approximately $1,000).
  • Although this is a fundraising activity for the Rotary; the people named above viewed the primary value of the Spaghetti Dinner as a "Community Outreach" opportunity for our Club.  A chance for our Rotary to be visible in the community.
  • In order for the Event to have its biggest impact, the Club will need the support of its members in the donation of Time (either Friday night or Saturday).  The goal will be to have an Abundance of Volunteers so no single person bears the burden (goal of 40+ volunteers).  Volunteers will be primarily Rotarians; however, we encourage our families to participate, as well as, our Interactors from Stroudsburg and MCTI.  The ESU Rotaract membes are also encouraged to participate; however, the college will be out of session at the time of the event.
  • In addition to the leaders named above; we will be looking to have other volunteers for the committee.  Tickets and cost of tickets will be determined by the Committee.  This will be a group effort.
One other important point: this year the Vocational Auction held on 3/26/2020 will be much smaller in scope than past year's and is not anticipated to raise the same level of funds.  Therefore the fundraising aspect of the Spaghetti Dinner, although not its primary value, is important for the generation of dollars back into the community at our year end distribution.
We will have discussion on this matter at the luncheon meeting this Thursday.  I encourage each of you to raise your questions at the meeting.  Please respond back to me directly with your comments if you cannot make the meeting this Thursday.
Thanks to each of you for your ongoing commitment to Rotary,
Jeff Gilbert
2019-2020 President
