Rotary Mottoes
Art Sheldon, a Chicago Rotarian, made a speech in 1910 which included the phrase "He profits most who serves his fellows best."  This inspired Rotary International’s first motto, “He Profits Most Who Serves Best," which was approved at the second Rotary Convention—held in Portland, Oregon, in August 1911.
Soon after, Ben Collins, president of the Rotary Club of Minneapolis, Minnesota, commented that the proper way to organize a Rotary Club was through the principle which his club had adopted-"Service, Not Self."
"He Profits Most Who Serves Best" and "Service Above Self" are slightly modified versions of the two slogans. They were formally approved to be the official mottoes of Rotary at the 1950 Convention in Detroit.
The 1989 Council on Legislation established "Service Above Self" as the principal motto of Rotary, because it best explains the philosophy of selfless volunteer service.
All the Best…

Be My Valentine
Last week, the Evening Club gathered to make Valentine's Day cards for Meals on Wheels recipients. Rotarian Lucy Shunk donated the materials. Shown here are Rotarians Gail Kulick and Zerla Bartolome showing us how a little gesture goes a long way to make someone's day brighter.
Rotary Leadership Institute (RLI)
Rotary Leadership Institute (RLI) is a way for Rotarians to come
together and learn more about Rotary and leadership that will
benefit not only as they navigate Rotary, but also in their everyday lives.
The sessions are broken into I, II, III and Graduate courses that can
be taken over the course of one or several years. With our current
situation, sessions are now being held virtually rather than in person.
There are 3 upcoming RLIs that you can attend as a first timer with
session I, or to continue from a session you might have taken in the
past. The next is Saturday February 27th from 9am to 2pm right in
your own home. The cost is $25 which we ask that you pay upfront
when you register. Then after you attend the session, submit your
receipt to our treasurer or myself and we will reimburse you for the
fee. Please visit to register and find out more.
District 7410 Stay at Home Auction
The District 7410 Virtual Fundraiser is a stay at home auction. The district is requesting donations of goods and services to be put up for auction and sponsorships. Across the district the usual localized Club fundraisers that people attend in large groups have been severely reduced and so we are working together to fundraise with a Silent auction between February 1, 2021 and March 14, 2021. The auction hopes to raise $110,000 for The Rotary foundation Annual Fund and $30,000 for the Polio Eradication Fund of Rotary International. Any success over and above our goals will be used in our local clubs to match funds for local projects in our communities. The auction is live now so visit to place your bid on some exciting items - something for everyone! Our Stroudsburgs reps for this event are President Cleo Jarvis and Rotarians Stacy Rodriguez and Ann Super. Be sure to visit often because new items will be added until right before the auction closes. Many exciting opportunities!
