We are very saddened to let you know that our Stroudsburg Rotary Member - John Parker passed away yesterday from an airplane accident.  Our Club will greatly miss John and all that he did for our Club and the Community.  Please keep Mary Louise and the entire Parker family in your thoughts and prayers.  We will keep you informed as we receive additional information. -President Jeff Gilbert
President's Corner

Greetings fellow Rotarians!

Three (3) months of the Rotary year are almost complete; and it has been a busy start for the Year.  I want to thank each one of you that have contributed to make this Rotary year a very successful one thus far.

As I mentioned several weeks ago, each of us has the opportunity of serving through Rotary with the giving of our Time, our Talents and / or through the giving of our Dollars.

On Thursday October 3rd (one week away), we will be having our inaugural "Reverse Raffle" event at SIAMSA restaurant on Main Street in Stroudsburg.  The Event will begin at 6pm and last for a little more than 2 hours.  The goal was that this Reverse Raffle would be, one of, if not the largest fundraiser for the Stroudsburgs Rotary during the 2019-2020 year.

Thus far in the Rotary year we have been busy with projects that have required our Time and Talents.  However, for this Event we are in need of Financial Support.  We had hoped that you would be able to sell the Raffle Tickets to individuals that would love to support the Stroudsburgs Rotary and its Program with the additional benefit of potentially winning $5,000 in cash.  Most of the participants thus far have come from outside of our Membership so we have been successful in that part of the Fundraiser.  Unfortunately to date we have received less than 30% participation from our Members in the selling of the tickets (whether to themselves or others).  "That Said", I am confident that this percentage will greatly increase due to the history of our Club's fundraising activities.

Many of you have communicated that you will be providing your tickets (and money) back to Don Hannig shortly.  I am requesting that you do so at tomorrow's meeting or coordinate a time to get the tickets and money to Don prior to the end of this week.  Needless to say, we will be accepting the tickets and money up until Thursday October 3rd; however, it is better for Don and his Committee if we can receive the bulk of the tickets prior to the day of the Event.

Blessings,
Jeff Gilbert
2019-2020 President
The Library Cafe
Korey Varkados came to talk about his first job at the Library Cafe.  Korey has been a volunteer at the library and think its great that the library is offering employment to people with special needs.  "To get folks to work together and help one another and inspire others that's very important in life too and with this cafe job, the workers, especially those with special needs can have a big impact on someone's life".
Rotary Leadership Institute

The Rotary Leadership Institute (RLI) is a multi-district, grassroots leadership development program of member districts organized into regional divisions in various parts of the world.  RLI is a recommended program of Rotary International.  RLI seeks to provide quality education in Rotary knowledge and leadership skills to Rotarians interested in developing their Rotary participation and to those identified by Rotary Clubs as having a potential in club leadership. These educational opportunities will teach skills that will benefit the members in their lives and in their volunteer service.  Ask a club member if they had went and what were their takeaways!  One is coming up October 26th in Scranton.  Click Here to Register.  Our club is offering scholarships so see President Jeff for more information!

Let's hear about WHY you JOINED Rotary and WHY you STAYED a ROTARIAN!  The marketing committee would like to do features of our members.  We would do a Facebook Live video to have it recorded, and include it on our website, MonRotary and District Newsletter.  Email stroudsburgsrotary@gmail.com if you would like to participate!  If you have any questions, call Jessica at 570-269-2891.
