When the Stroudsburgs Rotary was founded more than 99 years ago...it looked very different than it does today. It was an all-male club where business men could engage in philanthropy as a team. With the COG wheel as their symbol, they did great work. But there soon came a time when they had to reinvent their wheel and include women. Fast forward to today where women are an integral part of Rotary and serve as Presidents and District Governors. The wheel was again reinvented when a diverse group of individuals were granted membership. This truly enriched Rotary Worldwide. Wit the COVID-19 restrictions, Rotary once more reinvented the wheel with finesse and a flurry of creativity. ZOOM Rooms became an integral art of the organization. It took educating members to help them remain engaged. For this reason, I encourage all our members to: EDUCATE and INNOVATE: Educate current members about Rotarians have done and are doing so they can join in activities and remain engaged. Member engagement will make the club a vibrant, effective and sustainable body in service to their community. The flurry of activity of an engaged membership will in turn attract new members. RECONNECT PAST MEMBERS...they might find current activities engaging and wish to join in. EDUCATING OTHERS about Rotary is an easy way to attract new members. We can ALL do this by being Ambassadors for Rotary. Help us create an elevator pitch which will allow every member to tell about rotary in 2 minutes or less...THIS IS A CONTEST WITH A PRIZE. We will announce particulars shortly. Everyone is encouraged to participate. You can do so as a team or individually. Help use create a brand for Stroudsburgs Rotary. For example...in the past we were identified with the Daffodil Express. What will we be identified with today which is valuable, doable and sustainable? Which community organizations would we engage with to bring this to fruition? Your recommendations are needed. JOIN A COMMITTEE. This is the easiest way to become and remain engaged. Dave Super and other dynamic Rotarians meet on Wednesdays to identify community service opportunities. There will be new committees formed. If interested in joining membership, see Karen DeMatteo. No one can do everything but everyone can do something. We are one community. We stand strong together. We are flexible and resilient. We are in this together. |
