"Change is inevitable in life. You can either resist it and potentially get run over by it, or you can choose to cooperate with it, adapt to it, and learn how to benefit from it. When you embrace change you will begin to see it as an opportunity for growth."
~Jack Canfield

Recap July 8, 2024
Thank you to last week's speaker, Rotarian Carmine Corridore, President of Underdog Cyber Defense, our corporate sponsor, for sharing the importance of what his company does. "Underdog Cyber Defense is an IT service provider that specializes in Cybersecurity. We work with our clients to help them uncover their risks and vulnerabilities. Cyber threats are more prevalent than ever, and cyberhackers are only getting more advanced in their techniques. This has given rise to the need for more advanced, tailored, comprehensive solutions from third-party CIOs. Carmine and the team at Underdog Cyber Defense are here to meet that need now and for years to come."  For more information call 570-243-9205  Shilkys Lopez, Business Growth Executive, accompanied Carmine and is part of the team and will be joining us during our lunch meetings.
Thank you for becoming a corporate sponsor.

Last week was my (President Stacy's) 1st meeting, and it was quite comical and a rumbling / grumbling meeting if you missed it.  Starting off with change, without running one meeting wasn't the smartest idea. However, I had my first learning experience and I bounced back.  Some of the lessons learned were:
1- I totally understand Pavlov's dog and there are certain things that should not be changed
2- Just because things may work somewhere else doesn't mean it will work for everyone
3- Pick your battles, sometimes it's not your fight
4- "Change is inevitable. Change is constant." ~ Bejamin Disraeli
4- I survived my decisions, and I can laugh about it.
5- Laughter is the best policy, and I'm sure there will be plenty more as the year goes on.  Start your Spring Fling notes now because there will be plenty of content.

And last but not least, there was confusion at the front table.  Pres Elect Ed Schaefer sat down and was helping out and when all those that had responsibilities came in they were perplexed and were left with nothing to do.  Upon my knowledge I did not take action so I will pay my fine. Deb Olsen and Eric Keber we apologize for any disruption in the flow of your day last week and definitely appreciate your involvement at our Thursday lunch meetings.  For anyone with meeting responsibilities - you may let whoever is sitting in your seat know that it is your assignment or just enjoy the time to mingle.

On a brighter note, we had our first induction of the year.  Let's welcome our newest Rotarian, Timaki Johnson from Family Promise.  Timaki has been to many meetings last year, and we are happy to finally make it official. Timaki will be replacing Enid Logan.

During the evening meeting we had the instillation of "officers". Congratulations to Chair Gene Prospero, Secretary Juliette Caines, and Treasurer Zerla Bartolome.

Rotarian Dave Yarosh presented Eagle Scout Andrew Huntsberger with Stroudsburgs Rotary Award at his Eagle Court of Honor. We are the sponsoring organization of Troop 86.

Here are a few photos from Rotary Day of Service back in May at The ReStore in Marshalls Creek.  Thank you to all for your volunteerism.

Tricia expressed her appreciation to Pres. Stacy with a T-Shirt from Mother Cabrini's Shrine. Tricia attended a fellowship at the Strouds Mall, watching the movie Cabrini, and Tricia was so touched that in her travels she visited the Shrine.

John Dennis and Pres. Stacy went to a Chamber Multi Cultural Event on Jun 24 and met an international exchange student that Stroudsburgs Rotary sent abroad years ago.  She remembers her time vividly and is best friends with the girl she stayed with. DO you remember her name?  Ask John Dennis more about this and possibly win a prize. We invited her to lunch, so we hope to see her one afternoon.

**It is with a heavy heart that the Board has decided not to continue with Project Healing Waters.  Due to the lack of Veteran participants, rising costs and more events going on for the Veterans at the new facility that they acquired.  It was a wonderful event!

Fellowship at the Cranberry Bog
We had a great time at the Tannersville Cranberry Bog.  There were 7 Rotarians and Amy's daughter Greta, that joined another 22 people for the sunset hike.  The weather was perfect, and we were able to share Rotary with others that were on the hike.  Kathy and Eric Uhler, past owners of the Pocono Wildlife Refuge were among the participants and may just pop in one of our meetings.  It was nice seeing Lance again, since he was able to attend this fellowship.  Part of the boardwalk was a Boy Scouts project.  The Boardwalk is directly on the top of the bog.

District Update
Rotary District 71410 just released this information on the Global Grant that we are a part of:

Great news recently from Milano North Rotary in Italy- the lead on the referenced Global Grant.
Just got confirmation that the equipments have left Milano this morning; first destination Lublin in Poland, then forwarded from there to Ukraine.
Pictures of the truck with the 8 crates leaving is enclosed.  Pictures in the District Newsletter.
You’re the first one to know.
And you deserve it, the USA contribution to the project has been very significant!
Thanks again…

50/50-With 10 cards left Peter Andrews picked for the Queen but he did not succeed.  Since there was confusion we are not sure of $? rolls over!

We started a new way of giving back the 50/50, which I thought was understood but realized it was not.

50% of that days money will go to the club.

The other 50% will be split 2/3 and 1/3.

2/3 of the 50% will be rolled over like before. However,
1/3 of the 50% will be given back to the person that picked the card.

That way if you got chosen to pick for the Queen you will win a few dollars. This adds to a little excitement of at least covering some of your cost.

On that note, Peter did not really win the $19 that was disbursed to him.

Example:
$58 was Thursdays take

50% for club - $29
The other 50% gets split:
2/3 gets rolled over - $20
1/3 gets paid out to person -$9
