Kwaku Anim-Appiah, a Rotaract alumnus, shared with us that The Pocono Family YMCA 5th Annual Back to School Drive, in partnership with Meet the Needs, takes place on Saturday, August 15, 2026, from 1:00 PM to 5:00 PM at B.F. Morey Elementary School. See flyer below if you can donate supplies or wish to attend or volunteer. Raffle tickets are available at the event or at the YMCA for those who cannot attend due to the Rotary Annual BBQ.
Our speaker, Harry Zhang, a financial professional, entrepreneur, and international business advisor, shared his experience with crypto-currency. Harry started by buying 2 Bitcoin for $500 in 2014; note that the current price is ~ $65,000. In 2014-16 there were maybe 500 coins, while now there are anywhere from 15-100 million coins in the marketplace. There are tens of thousands of crypto currencies currently (Bitcoin being the largest), with probably 99% of them going to zero in the future. Coinbase is the major online platform used to buy, sell, trade, and store digital money like Bitcoin and Ethereum. Speculation is that in 3-5 years AI will handle most payments with crypto on blockchain, a de-centralized digital ledger. With all this in the future, The Digital Asset Market Clarity (CLARITY) Act is on the Senate Legislative Calendar - a bipartisan bill designed to create a functional regulatory framework for cryptocurrencies and digital assets in the United States, dividing oversight cleanly between the Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) and the Commodity Futures Trading Commission.
