Carlena Back is a retired language arts teacher from the Stroudsburg Area School District. She holds two master’s degrees– one in secondary education and a second in professional and digital media writing. In fact, much of Carlena’s most recent degree work focused on Quiet Valley, culminating in its updated website and a promotional video that served as her final project. Carlena has been involved with the farm museum for over twenty years. Having started as a volunteer at the bake oven, she went on to serve multiple terms on the board of directors and now holds the part-time position of volunteer coordinator. As an avid cook and Master Gardener, Carlena frequently provides baked goods for Quiet Valley’s events, and she designed the demonstration garden known as Emma’s Victorian Flower Garden by the Farmhouse. Carlena is a descendent of Pennsylvania German heritage, and combined with her love of learning and teaching, she is dedicated to Quiet Valley’s mission of historical preservation and education
