The LOCAL's Bookshop

Suzanne Pyrch and Deborah Emin began the vegan pop-up bookstore, The LOCALS’ Bookshop in response to the high incidence of Type 2 Diabetes in Monroe County. From that seed, the pop-up bookstore expanded to include cookbooks, children’s books, fiction, poetry, memoir, true stories of animal rescues and advocacy. As well as the number of books growing over time, they began offering Veggie Critters, a neighbor’s crocheted representations of vegetables and fruits. Making a vegetable a friend is an organic way of accustoming children to them as a natural part of our daily diet too. 

We’ve been in business for 5 years. We go to farmers markets, VegFests, pizza parlors and other bookstores. We carry the original message with us. We want people to live full, healthy lives. Being vegan is a wonderful way to find your health and contribute to the health of the planet.
