Bonnie Sirower, a member of the Fair Lawn Sunrise Rotary Club and on the Board of the International Fellowship of Rotarian Musicians, encouraged Rotarians to establish drum circles in the community under the 501(c) 3 organization “Music Mends Minds, Restoring the Rhythm of Life.” Drum circles are held in senior centers, memory care facilities, veterans homes and other places. Participation in a drum circle may lead to reduced stress, feelings of well-being and improved ability to concentrate and focus. Throughout NJ, 14 Rotarians are trained facilitators and drum circles have been held for thousands, in groups of 15-30. Bonnie acted as Drum Circle Facilitator as all present were provided various instruments including drums, tambourines, dog toys that oink, triangles…no musical experience was necessary!
