District Governor Andy Lane Chapman shared with both lunch and evening members that our District 7410, covering 10 counties and 40 clubs, is most likely to merge with District 7430, which covers 5 counties in southeastern Pennsylvania: Berks, Bucks, Lehigh, Montgomery, and Northampton counties. Andy’s next stop was Easton to discuss how the merger would proceed. At the club level, there should be no noticeable change. As it would be near impossible for a District Governor of now 10 counties to visit all 85 clubs, there is a proposal to have a Regional Governor as well. It is also being discussed to keep certain aspects of the 2 Districts separate, for example RYLA, whereas Youth Exchange and PELS (President-Elect Learning Seminar) would be merged. Merger discussions are in early stages and our club engaged in a lively discussion with the District Governor.
Andy shared that our Rotary International Director will be visiting Scranton on 11/13 and 11/14, with a meet and greet Friday night, a service project Saturday morning and then the Annual Rotary Foundation luncheon. It is appreciated if our club could make a big showing. More information will be available soon.
Finally, Andy is exploring the feasibility of having a district wide calendar on the website and/or weekly updates of what is scheduled for each of the clubs.
