Lauren Peterson, Executive Director of Women's Resources in Monroe County, presented a very informative discussion on various initiatives happening locally. October is Domestic Violence Awareness month so the timing was very appropriate. Domestic Violence touches everyone and knows no boundaries - not limited by gender, economic status, age, sexual orientation or any other classification. Our local agency takes great pride in maintaining confidentiality and thus gains trust of clients so they can overcome their situation. COVID had a tremendous impact on the increasing number of calls. Lauren reviewed the Power and Control Wheel which increased awareness of identifying various DV scenarios. If you know someone who needs help, encourage them to contact Women's Resources. Don't judge or place conditions on their friendship. They need your support. This is a free service and they rely on donations and fundraiser as a significant source of financial resources. Three event coming up in October to build awareness and generate funds are 10/17 Hops for Hope; 10/20 Candlelight Vigil at Courthouse Square in Stroudsburg and 10/28 Art Event at Pocono Cinema. That is already on display and closes the Butterfly Release for Peace event.
